Identity theft and fraud are rapidly growing problems in our increasingly web-based economy,
and they are costing companies millions every year. A key piece of data required in virtually
every credit-related transaction, including mortgage processing, is the consumer's unique Social
Security Number (SSN). Until recently, this was a labor intensive, time-consuming manual process
involving a variety of handwritten and typed hardcopy forms.
Sysdome, a California-based company, helps mortgage professionals detect identity and property
fraud, and one of the crucial fraud prevention services Sysdome offers is SSN verification. "We
saw a real opportunity to grow the service business, because the market demand was certainly there,
" said Mike Zwerner, VP of Business Development of Sysdome. "But we were reaching the limits of our
capacity to deliver, and the manual labor requirements made it cost-prohibitive. We realized the
solution was to automate the process, but we also knew we didn't have the expertise inhouse to
tackle the job."
Sysdome went straight to Murano Software, an offshore outsourcing firm they had worked with before.
They counted on Murano to once again deliver a well-crafted software application quickly and
inexpensively.
Murano worked closely with Sysdome's internal technical staff to test the application and
ensure a smooth hand-off, and provided one-on-one training to get Sysdome's staff up to
speed and comfortable with the new system quickly. Murano also developed new capabilities
that made Sysdome's service offering even better, including exception-based reporting,
automatic exception handling and faster report generation. The SSN Direct system is
highly customizable, well-documented and its processes and reports can be easily changed
without Sysdome's internal development team's involvement.
In just the first three weeks of using the new system, Sysdome calculate that their
productivity has increased by 10% to 15%. They were also able to cut the staff needed to run
the process from 6 to 8 people down to just two. It’s estimated that SSN Direct will save
Sysdome in excess of $100,000 in staffing costs this year alone by enabling the redeployment
of those freed up resources.
